Easter is coming soon!

I joined an Easter ATC swap that my friend, Sandy of Her Vintage Stage, was hosting. The cards are due on April 1st. Here is the ATC I did for that swap. I am anxious to get my cards back to see what others have done. I will share those with you when I get them. I love this little girl and I thought she looked like that little birdie had told her something that no one else had shared with her. The image is from Digital Collage Sheets. They have really nice downloads that are reasonably priced and you get them almost instantly. Check them out!!

Queen's corsets cards

Here are two corset cards fit for a queen! One in pink and one in black. I created these for those of you who love Marie Antoinette! I hope to get these on the class schedule at Mystic Paper soon.
I love this black one with the aqua insert. Too pretty! The Marie tags are in a pocket that fits inside the corset. You could tuck a note or pictures to your mom for Mother's Day or to a friend who is crazy about Marie Antoinette in these cards.
Here is one in pink! Love the German scrap roses on this one! Also it is trimmed with tiny pearls. Love the Marie Antoinette tags that fit in the pocket and tuck inside the corset.
I will let you know when I get these scheduled. They are quick to do and lots of fun! So stay tuned for more information on these.

Don't forget!!!! Tomorrow I draw the name of the winner of the give-away shown in my March 23rd blog. Be sure to leave a comment on that blog (not this one -- scroll down to see it) if you want your name to be included in the drawing. I'll be posting the winner shortly after noon tomorrow, Sunday!

Recent finds

On Tuesday, I was invited to visit a friend's house to rummage through her stash of stuff. Her name is Sharon, and she is a dealer at Merchant Square. I buy from her booth/store at Merchant's all the time and every time we run into each other (at estate sales and flea markets!) we catch up on the latest. Sharon specializes in fabrics, trims, vintage clothing, jewelry, and lots of other stuff. Her booth at Merchant's is like a small vintage store stuffed with delightful things! Her stash is "to die for!" Sharon has found old hat pins (without the beads) for me to create new hat pins with my bead collection. She has also found lots of vintage rayon seam binding for me in a variety of colors. Sharon is an angel!! Well, on Tuesday I found this wonderful porcelain lady sewn to a pin cushion. She can't sit up by herself so I have plopped her into a vintage "orphan" cup I have. What do you think?? I love her and she is a keeper, for the time being!
Another dealer at Merchant's had these half heads in his booth. Mike has tons of stuff for sale at Merchant's but is downsizing to one booth as was making deals. I love these half heads! I bought three of them. The one on the left was a present to me from Mike! I love that guy! Ever since I saw that Stampington was going to publish a book about Marie Antoinette, I have been looking for these heads. They cost me a small fortune because they are vintage and one is German made. But I love them!!

DON'T FORGET!! Leave a comment on my March 23rd post to have your name put in the hat for the give-away!

Pretty March Give-Away

It is time to do another give-away. And here it is:

There are two lovely vintage hankies, one is white with white embroidery and the other is white with pink flower embroidery. Both are clean and in excellent condition -- as in never used. There are three pretty pink roses and a nice strand of small pearls to embellish your art work. Also included is the lovely cutout of a little girl in a bridal veil. She is holding a tiny gold mirror. There are also a couple of hearts on a tiny corsage of roses with two tiny rings and a few pearls. The paper doily is not included -- it is for photography purposes. All discovered in my stash as I was looking for things to use in a project.

If you would like a chance to win this March Give-Away all you have to do is leave a comment on this March 23rd blog only. You have until Sunday, March 29, to leave a comment. I will then have someone draw the names of the people who left comments and announce the winner. I mail promptly upon receiving your address so you can have the give-away right away!

March ATC's

The theme for the March ATC's was spring. The participants were to use a fold in the design of their ATC's. These are just the ones that I received. Check Mystic Paper's swap website in a few days to see pics of all the ATC's for this month.

Here are three of the ATC's opened. Some real clever folds and springtime ideas were in this month's swap. There were 12 participants this month. Great job to everyone who submitted their ATC's!!

Finds of the weekend

I love this canister set!! White with pink roses!! It is shabby! Several of the lids have chipped edges. But you can turn the lids to the back and the chips are not visible from the front. I found this summer frock (is there any other name for this dress??) at a flea market. It is made by Gunne Sax for Jessica McClintock. It is a buttery ecru (is there such a thing?) and soft, soft, soft! Wish I could wear it, but it is a size 9. Haven't been in a nine since I was. . . . 9!
Here is the long view. The picture hat is just about the same color.
Please check out my Flickr page to see 15+ other photos I took of my booth yesterday. I spent quite a while redoing some of the items I have for sale.

I want to share some pics of my backyard with you. Here is the beautiful bougainvilla at the side of my patio. We've had a mild winter (no real heavy frosts or a good freeze) and now that it is a bit warmer things are blooming! Here is the acacia tree. Beautiful yellow blossoms, fairly nice fragrance. But . . . .Here is the result of the blossoms dropping off the tree. Let a slight breeze blow and it gets worse.
The blossoms are like tiny puff balls and they stick together in piles. I should go out there to sweep them up. But, did you see how many are left on the tree?? Sweeping might be a futile attempt to clean up!Lastly, here is my poor saguaro. There are a couple of flickers who are pecking holes in it. I am not happy about this, but there isn't much I can do. Scaring them off is useless -- they just come back. Some people tell me it won't hurt the cactus, but I am not convinced. I wish the flickers would go away. That saguaro was an expensive cactus!

Here's to you Kim!

You made me feel bad today that I hadn't posted a self-portrait on my blog. Seems I am one of two who haven't done it yet since you posted your picture on March 17 and passed the tag on.

I am not a rule follower when it comes to this. I don't forward emails full of "stuff" that really isn't important. I don't forward those emails that tell me something awful will happen to me if I don't. Hmm! I am still here and nothing awful has happened. I don't tag people because I consider it an imposition upon them. If I get tagged, I probably will do "whatever" but I feel guilty passing it on. So I usually don't. Anyway, here is my self-portrait.

I put the ole camera on the tripod in front of the mirrored doors on the master closet and shot several pictures. This is the best one and I don't consider it a good picture! Cut the top of my head off -- but who cares?? Gosh!! I don't have PhotoShop on this new computer and I cannot take out the wrinkles. Bummer!!! At least I can still flash a great smile to all of you!!!!

I'm not passing it on!!

My heart is breaking today

I just did this page in my Prompt a Day journal. My heart is heavy today after learning that my dear friend, Hedy, is now under hospice care. The lymphoma she fought so hard against 10 years ago and won, has returned. The last round of stem cell transplants and chemo a week ago did not stop the rapid progress of the lymphoma.

The tears have flowed freely all day long. They flow not only for Hedy but for my husband David and my sister Jan. Memories of each of them have entered my thoughts all day long. The tears have flowed. I have not done this -- have a crying spell and vivid memories of my loved ones -- in several years and now my eyes hurt. My heart hurts.

I will miss Hedy terribly. We talked often, had great girlie days together when she was here for the winter months, could call each other at a moments notice to meet for lunch. Even when she returned to Chicago for the summer months we would talk on the phone often to catch up on our news.

The angels in heaven will love Hedy when she arrives there. They will laugh and laugh! Hedy will always be "fantastic", as she always said when asked how she was.

March ATC and Marie

Here is my ATC for the March swap at Mystic Paper. The theme was spring and you were to incorporate a fold somewhere on your card.
Here is the view of the card when closed. Here it is opened. Actually, this card will stand by itself and when it is standing, it makes the bird look like it is on a limb over the nest. I liked the effect.
This arrived in my mailbox today. I have not read it yet, but am headed to the couch to correct that! Can't wait to see what it has to offer!! See you later!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to You!

Will you be wearin' the green tomorrow?? I will! A Happy St. Patrick's Day to ya!
The yard sale went well! I sold a lot of stuff and also donated the left overs to a church here in Sun Lakes. They even came and picked it up after the sale! No worries! Now I have a few bucks to buy more items for my booth at Merchant Square as well as more art goodies!

In readiness mode all week. . .

Our community yard sale is this Saturday. I have been in the garage for days sorting, cleaning out, setting aside donations, and piling up stuff for the yard sale.

A glimpse at the stuff in the third garage bay. Barely room to walk through, but things are priced and ready to move out the garage door on Saturday morning.I have sorted through items that were in my booth at Merchant Square. Found lots of things that I am tired of trying to sell. They are going for bargain prices on Saturday.Frames, pictures, shelving, laundry basket, pillows.I even went through this storage cupboard. Took out tons of my old hand painted items that now look very cheesy to me. They went to the thrift store. Now I have room for Christmas decorations, the flour bin for my Hoosier cabinet, some of my painted items, dolls and doll furniture for my granddaughter (she's not old enough for it yet and her little brother would destroy it because he's too young to understand), and my DDH's box of tax records dating back to the 1980 's! Think it is time to get rid of those. Next time the shredder people come to Sun Lakes I am taking that box over there.

So you can see that I haven't spent much time in my studio space. Instead I have been in the garage getting ready for this yard sale.

Prompt a Day

As many of you know, I took a couple of classes last month with Kelly Kilmer. I did enjoy stepping outside of my box during her classes. In fact, I decided to join her Prompt a Day during the month of March. I have really enjoyed doing these and decided to share with you some pictures of what I have created.
A little journaling is part of the prompts and I find that it was easier than I thought it would be. I don't have to write a lot, just some thoughts. I like it!

As you can see, these are a big departure from my usual artwork. But I really enjoy doing these. It has been fun using up old scrapbook papers, using magazine pictures, and loads of paint. Arranging the collage elements has a learning experience. Good ideas! I have also experimented with the new Claudine Helmuth paints and I like them! The journal I am using for the Prompts is one of the two I made with Kelly during class.

Fright of my life today!

I thought this was a bit of fuzz on the carpet in my den. I bent down and picked it up!! FORTUNATELY (!!!!!!!) this thing was already dead and flattened out, but you can just imagine the terror I felt when I discovered what it actually was!!!! OMG!!!I must have stepped on him outdoors somewhere and he became stuck to the bottom of my shoe. This scares the daylights out of me!!! I do not want these things in my house. I have my yard sprayed each month to keep the scorpion's food sources (crickets, bugs, whatever) away from my house! Spraying won't kill the darned things but destroying its food here will mean it has to move next door to hunt food!! He is in a plastic bag now and I will soon destroy him for good!!

FROM NOW ON I AM PUTTING ON MY GLASSES BEFORE I PICK ANYTHING UP OFF THE FLOOR!!! LESSON LEARNED!!!

The last doll

Isn't she pretty? I think she has a lovely face! She has the Victorian look that is so popular today. She would be great to use in an altered art project or to sew together and dress (see below).
Her head is 3 1/2" tall. The arms measure 2 3/4" and the legs are 3 1/8". Included with her are directions for making the body as well as a dress for her. She is made of bisque porcelain and she is in excellent condition -- no chips or scratches. She is for sale. If you are interested, please send me an email and we can work out the details. Otherwise, she is going in my Etsy shop.

I couldn't give her a name. If I did, I might be tempted to keep her! But she does need a home with someone who will take good care of her.

******UPDATE*****

The Victorian doll has found a new home with Becky! Thanks, Becky!! See you soon!!

The dolls I found

I have seen a lot of altered art lately that incorporates doll heads and doll parts. Becky, are you there??? Colleen?? Sherry??? Mike?? Check your emails!!!

Here are my finds from Merchant Square on Tuesday. All are bisque and new -- nothing old or antique here. But I see from Becky's Heart in My Hand blog that she is crackle painting her dolls as well as antiquing them. Kim of Mystic Paper is antiquing her doll heads.
This cute little red head doll has the sweetest face! Her head is 5" tall and the arms and legs measure 3" long. No chips or any type of flaw. Excellent condition!!This darling blond baby has the same measurements as the red head doll. Again, excellent condition.

Colleen, somehow this one has your name on it. Am I right?? This little doll with an oriental look to his face, is smaller than the other two above. The head is 3 1/4" long and the arms and legs measure 2 3/4" long.

I am going to sell these dolls and they will be listed on my Etsy shop on Monday unless you let me know by email that you are interested in any of them. Didn't know I had an Etsy shop, did you? Nothing in it right now, but that is going to change.

Tomorrow I have a Victorian doll head, arms and legs to share with you. And she comes with pattern and instructions to construct her body and a dress.

****UPDATE*****

The above dolls have been sold!!! Thanks to Sherry and Colleen!! I just knew these had your names on them!!! Thanks ladies!!!

Lavender

I planted this lavender in my front yard two years ago. Since our winter has been relatively mild, with lots of rain and not much below freezing temperatures, the lavender has really flourished! The lavender was full of busy bees, too! Do you see the one in the lower center of the picture? Next blog I will share with you the doll parts (heads, arms, legs) that I discovered yesterday at Merchant Square. You're gonna love 'em!

Under the weather!

Last Thursday the throat started feeling scratchy and sore. Friday worse. By Saturday I was lying on the couch all day, fully dressed and covered with two blankets -- in 88 degree weather! I was freezing!! Yesterday the nose was so plugged that mouth breathing was the only way I was going to take any breath! Cold medicine, you say? It didn't help. Just plugged my breathing passages up totally and my nose still ran! AWFUL!!

I am better today. The nose is somewhat better -- at least at times I can breathe through it! LOL!! But I have been through a lot of tissues!!I found this picture on the blog of Vintage Bliss. I was taken by the turquoise crosses covered with shells. Had to make some of my own!! So off to a "big box" store I went and found the wood cross. You can see that I already had a bag of seashells and a jar of broken pearl necklaces. A little spray paint in Robin's Egg and I was good! I plan to do more!I love the tiny pearls in the center shell. And the limpet shells were so pretty and ruffly! A little glue and I was good to go!

Lately I have been collecting crosses of all kinds. Don't know why! Also am collecting rosaries to drape on the cross and my angel. They seem to be everywhere now! Just look!In the niche in my entry way. I plan to add more as I find them. Used to be a huge floral in the niche and I never really did like it -- not really me!In the corner of the great room stands my angel with a fancy cross on the wall behind her. On the wall to the left top is my only Wallace Nutting tinted photo and two pictures of Lake Tahoe that my sister gave me.Here is a close up of the angel with the rosaries and crosses around her neck. Her crowns (on her head and at the bottom) are from Rustic Stuff in Scottsdale. The angel is from the Scottsdale Marketplace at Lincoln and Scottsdale Blvd. These two crosses are on the walls in the guest bathroom along with lots of my treasures discovered while antiquing over the years.

Got my last issue of County Home. It is not going to be published any longer and the remainder of my subscription will go to Better Homes & Gardens. Well, drat!! If I wanted that I would subscribe, which I don't! I loved Country Home!! Better than Country Living which I thought had lost its original direction long ago and I dropped my subscription. I was a Country Living devotee from the get-go! Kept them for years until my hubby told me to get rid of them because they weighed too much and the AF had a weight limit. He didn't want to pay the extra!

Also got a post card from Somerset Memories letting me know that the backlash (they didn't say that, but we all know everyone complained!) made them change their minds about publishing annually only. They will now published it semi-annually.

My head is shaking. I know what to make of all this, but I don't like it! Not one bit!
