Monday morning recovery

Last weekend was a big 3 day sale at Merchant Square.  Thanks to all who came out and shopped in my booth.  A lot of great things went out to happy buyers from my booth.  Now it is time to restock.

I am currently cleaning out a lot of stuff that I accumulated for art work.  It's time to let go and let someone else enjoy rubber stamps, buttons, scrapbooking items, vintage images, etc.  This morning I am pricing some Victorian ads that I bought some time ago.  I thought I would share these with you because the ads are just wonderful to use in scrapbooks, mixed media art, or to print and transfer onto fabric to make a gift bag.  Here's the first ad:
I love the graphics and the printing used in this ad!
This is the picture on the other side of the Lion Coffee card.

Here's a blank sales ticket for dry goods and notions.
And here's the other side of the dry goods and notions card.  Pretty, huh?

Please feel free to copy and use these in your artwork!  I could appreciate a link back here to my blog showing me just what you did with these images!  Always fun to see creative work in action!

Romancing the Home Part 2

More pictures from Sweet Salvage on 7th last Thursday.
Pretty display of small mirrors and shells with pink interiors!
 Love old phones and scales!
 Wonderful stained glass window!
Unique way to store red ribbon under a cloche!
So romantic!  Love this little display!
Roses, roses, roses!  See the panel on the right?  I bought that piece!
 More roses!
The feather bookmark caught my attention here!
Lovin' the birds and eggs and nests!
Would love this dresser!
These were my purchases at Sweet Salvage -- that beautiful barkcloth curtain panel full of roses, a rustic urn, wine bottle in a basket, two books and the number 7.
The wine bottle and the urn went on top of my pie safe.

Hope you enjoyed visiting my blog and Sweet Salvage on 7th!!

Romancing the Home with Sweet Salvage

Sweet Salvage on 7th did it again this month with their Romancing the Home theme.  Beautiful displays and guest artist, Christie Repasy!!  Wonderful job everyone!  Now, let me share some pics of their displays with you today.  More tomorrow!
Here I am holding a copy of the February issue of Somerset Life that features Sweet Salvage on 7th.  Jen Cushman did a fabulous job of photographing and writing the story about these gals.  So if you subscribe or can pick up a copy, be sure to do so!  I haven't gotten my personal copy in the mail yet.  I subscribe, so it will be coming along soon!!
I met Christie Repasy immediately and was so excited to have my picture taken with her.  I asked her if she had brought along one of her petticoats and boot pictures and she had!  Last Thursday was my birthday and this picture was my birthday present from my family and my great friend Gail.
For now it is sitting on the chest in my entryway so I can see it all the time!

Romancing the Home!
OK, let's get started with a few pictures of the goodies inside of Sweet Salvage.
All you need is LOVE and the displays on Thursday were definitely put together with lots of LOVE!
 More sweet things and LOVE!
This bed is a great piece!  And I love the frames filled with old mirrors!  Great idea!

Tiaras and a lovely picture of a girl.
Another friend who is one of the wonderful people who decorate and display for Sweet Salvage, Pat Hollenbach.  This is her area.
One of Christie's framed pictures, a shabby lamp and plenty of ruffles!  So romantic!

Roses

I found a tutorial on how to make easy fabric roses on The Polka Dot Closet's blog.  She posted it here last June 2011, and I thought I would give it a try.  Had a few hiccups with fabrics and singeing the edges over a candle flame.  But I got it done and here it is.
It's about 3 1/2" in diameter.  You can see some of the singed edges, but I like that!  The center is a link from an old broken bracelet that was in my stash.  I am going to do a few more and see what they look like after a bit of practice.  Practice makes perfect!

Roses around my home!
I have two of these small plates on the wall in my bedroom.
Roses on the dress form.
My grandmother's pitcher on the washstand next to my bed.
Roses over the bed (at least I think they are cabbage roses!).
A favorite original watercolor of roses I found at an estate sale.
The one and only Christie Repasy roses picture I own -- to date!  I hope to change that at Sweet Salvage on 7th this Thursday!  Christie is their guest artist this month.  She will be there Thursday and Saturday this week.  Sorry about the color.  I took the picture using only the lights from over the mirror in the bathroom.  The flash would have washed it out since I was so close to the picture.

Etsy Cottage Style Party - What's Cookin' in the Cottage Kitchen

This month, Etsy Cottage Style is having a blog party called "What's Cookin' in the Cottage Kitchen?"  I am linking up to this because I have pictures only of a mixed media recipe book I did several years ago that I would like to share with you.  I had fun creating this and filling it with old recipes, vintage pictures and many other goodies.
Here's the cover to "My Recipes" book.  Mini cookie cutters, tiny over mitt, and a lady dressed for the kitchen with apron and crown!  ;-D
I found this recipe book in a thrift store.  It did not contain any recipes, but was full of illustrated envelopes and divider pages that could be decorated.  I'm afraid that the flash on the camera gave this picture more glitter and shine than the actual book.  Older camera, less experienced photographer!  ;-D
The pink page on the right is one of the large envelope pages where you can tuck recipes.  I used an image from a vintage cookbook to illustrate how your cook/maid should be dressed while working in the kitchen and serving meals at the table.  ;-D  That's an old dinner menu on the other page.
Recipes, embellishments, old recipes are all over the pages.  I included extra pockets for more storage.
Love the large red rick rack as trim and the fabric on the opposite page tied with red polka dot fabric.  ;-D
Always good to know what utensils are needed in the well-equipped kitchen of the early 1900's!  Plus all the measuring instruments!  I also included a weights and measures chart!  ;-D
More storage pockets and envelopes for your recipe collection.  This isn't the entire book, but it sure gives you a good idea of what fun I had putting it together!  Sorry to say I don't cook much anymore since it is only me here these days.

Thanks so much for coming to my blog and leafing through a few pages of my favorite recipe book!  I hope you enjoyed it!  Use the link to Etsy Cottage Style to see all the other bloggers who have linked up with their "What's Cookin' in the Cottage Kitchen" blogs.

Another home display

One of my BFF's, Joy, came over to visit with me on Saturday and brought a gift for me.  It was a bouquet of dried hydrangeas.  Absolutely beautiful!!  Joy said to me, "You are the only person I know that I can give a bouquet of dead flowers and know that you would just love it!"  Yep!  Check out what I did with the bouquet.
Another BFF, Gail, helped me put together the arrangement of that beautiful tole tray and my brass bird cage.  I added the hydrangeas to the display.  It's on top of an old Hoosier cabinet that's in the kitchen.

Someone once told me that I can have only ONE BFF.  My take on that is PHOOEY!!  I have 3 and I dearly love each one!

I know I have been AWOL

But I have good reasons.  I won't go into it, but just know that I am on the mend.

In the meantime, I have started thinking about Valentine's Day already.  Actually, it's not that far off, is it??  So for just a quick post, I am sharing a few vintage Valentine images with you.

This was an old Valentine.  I love that it says "With Love" in the center and has the cute die cut bird.  Thinking this is hand made.
Print this one out and add your own sentiment.  I think this is lovely!
I love violets and think that this is so pretty!  Again, print it out and add your own embellishments and sentiment.
Isn't this little girl just cute!!  I am so in the mood to create Valentine's now.
