The vanity chair

I bought an old vanity chair in June that needed some work.  The price was right so I thought I could do something with it.  After all, a bit of paint and a new seat cover would be easy to do.  Yesterday I took the dirty old seat cover off of it to discover this:

Under two layers of old padding/batting was the original stuffing of the chair.  Looked like they had used some kind of "grass" to pad the middle of the chair.  My thoughts of painting the chair and then making a new cover went right out the window.  Instead I thought, this looks like the "de-constructed" furniture I see on blogs and on Facebook.  So I decided to do this:

I put back one layer of the old batting used to cover up the seat stuffing and tied it with burlap ribbon.  It is now in my booth at Merchant Square.  And the price is right.  Check it out!

See this lamp?  I love the pretty base on this lamp, but discovered that someone had twisted the base around so that the lamp cord actually came out on the back of the lamp base.  You can see the back side in this photo.

Yesterday I fixed that.  I loosened the base and twisted it so the cord now comes out on the back side of the lamp.  Isn't this side much prettier?  I also removed that really tacky plastic that was wrapped around shade and found this wonderful wire shade skeleton underneath.  The shade even has a lovely scalloped bottom on it.

Here's the back of the lamp with the cord in its proper place.  Glad I took a closer look at this lovely lamp and was able to correct a few of its faults.  It will be on its way to Merchant Square real soon.

Sweet Salvage Raw & Re-find

 Well, the ladies and gentlemen of Sweet Salvage did it again!  This month's show was called "Raw & Re-find" and it was wonderful.  I took lots of pictures to share with you today and tomorrow.  Hope you enjoy your pictorial tour of Sweet Salvage on 7th!

I love this great candelabra, the heart shaped clock with jewels and the yellow daisies!

Great lampshade!  Love the little gold bust and the old basked full of burlap ribbon!

This display was so pretty because it used real plants!  The boards on the left with the bird and the flowers is a winner too!

Fabulous cubby!  Look at all the tiny treasures held within!!

This lampshade was so wonderful.  I know my friend, Dawn of Bohemian Valhalla bought this one!  Lucky gal!!

Second lamp and lampshade redo

I bought two of these lamps at a flea market last year.  Of course, they are the typical 1950's lamps with the wonderful glass bases and your mother's plastic frilly shades.  Bleck!  Here is one that I bought (actually bought two of the same):

As you can see, the base is two shades of blue and the plastic shade is beginning to deteriorate, as they all do.  It's 50+ years old!

This is not the original shade form.  I actually covered a small lampshade (thrift store find) with the skirt of a child's vintage petticoat.  It wasn't quite long enough to reach to the bottom of the shade so I added a row of white ruffled cotton cutwork trim.  At the top I added pink gathered trim and the original tiny rose from the petticoat.

I painted the blue parts of the base with two coats of light antique white.  And this is the finished lamp ready to go into a special boudoir or child's room.  One of a kind!  The second lamp base may have a black base with another ruffled shade.  ;-D
