What have I been doing?

That question was asked of me recently.  What, if any, art work have I done recently.  Well, here are four pieces I completed this week.
 "Serenade"
An old book cover is the backing for this old postcard and vintage items mixed media collage.
"Love's Dream After the Ball"
Used the same material for this mixed media collage.
"All Dressed Up!"
Lots of old and newer trims used on the mixed media collage.  This was an old photograph I had collected years ago.  Loved this image because of her hat and Sunday best clothing.
This journal is covered with vintage flocked wall paper on both the front and the back covers.  This front has an overlay of lace as well.  Then I added the image (from Paper Whimsy), corner covers, vintage flowers and buttons.  Simple yet pretty.  Great journal for a young lady.

And that is what I have been up to lately!  Hope you like it.

In spite of the weather, I went out junking today

It's supposed to rain here today.  So far, the rain is to the west and north of my house.  The wind is kicking up and there is a lot of dust in the air.  This is the winter storm that hit California earlier in the week.  However, today is Saturday, and there are yard sales and a flea market close to my house.  I set out at 7 a.m. in the dark to shop.  I was not disappointed.
Finally found some more buttons.  My booth at Merchant Square is nearly out of buttons.  Thank goodness I found these buttons.  They are sorted and priced and ready to go.  Mind numbing activity, but I love it.
I love this leaning teapot!  So cute and it goes with my new flower pot and nesting birds!
Found some tiny items to add to displays in my booth.  Bitsy birds and birdhouses.  I think the turquoise flower pot is vintage.  See the rose decal at the bottom?
While digging through a box of stuff I came across this wall lamp.  I LOVE IT!!  It's turquoise and so industrial or salvage chic!  Best of all, IT WORKS!!
Last, but not least I found this metal box full of old film cans and reels (mid 1950's and the boxes predate zip codes) with actual 8mm film still on them!  Have you seen what film reels go for in the catalogs?  And just to hang on walls!  Swooned over this find.  And  the other metal box holds old slides.  More great industrial chic!

Much more found yesterday and today.  A small coffee table, pedestal table for a plant, old knobbed milk glass lamps, old baby clothes, old baby shoes, old jewelry box, and much more!  Now comes the hard part -- pricing all of it!!

More finds . . .

Here are pics of more of the finds of this weekend.  I really had good luck.
These two vintage plates are gorgeous.  My kind of plates with lots of pink roses.
Plenty of buttons and trinkets for art work!  Some for sale, too!
Old kitchen utensils and vintage salt and pepper shakers that make great hat pin holders.

Here are some more blogs I found from OWOH that you might enjoy:

Stempel-Gewerkel  Since the author is German, you will have to click on the Google Translator on the right side of her blog to read the text.  Nevertheless, her art work is beautiful without translation!

Artsy~Fartsy  Another thrift store hunter/gatherer!  Beautiful finds and pics for inspiration.

Heirlooms  Nice artwork and good pics for inspiration.

Embellishments 2

I think that taking a strip of fabric, and adding sewn buttons, bits of other fabrics and safety pins is a neat way to add texture and interest to a piece. Also a fun and unexpected addition could be a watch face with the gears and arrows of Tim Holtz bits. Putting that on lace just makes it interesting! This vintage orange velvet corsage is attached to a tiny doily piece. I tied long threads to it to hang down like a ribbon from the corsage.
The fridge is fixed! The repairman found the problem (bad capacitor, relay and overload parts) right away and had it running again in a matter of minutes. And he even had the repair parts on his truck! Can you imagine that??!! I lost most of the items in the freezer. However, the entire fridge is now clean inside and the food that couldn't be salvaged is gone. Feels like new!

Special Winter White Give-Away!!

This blog hit a milestone earlier this week. It has had 10,000 plus visitors! I thought that was pretty good!!

SO! I decided that I was going to do a special give-away to celebrate the first 10,000 visits and to say "thank you" for reading and visiting my blog!! I sorted through my stash and found all these special items in winter white. I will send this package to one special visitor who leaves a comment (one comment per person!) on this post during the next week. There are several pieces of vintage lace, a vintage hankie, three vintage cards (two with white flowers and the third has a winter scene), a small bag full of flowers, lace, buttons and a couple of small white clothespins, and the glittery "Dream" to hang somewhere in your home!

All you have to do win this special package of goodies is leave a comment on this post during the next week. I'd love to hear from you! Then....

Next Sunday, the 21st, I will put everyone's name (who left a comment here) in a hat and have my son draw out one name. I will post the winner's name next Sunday. So check back next week to see if your name was drawn from the hat!
