My weekend in Payson

I went to Payson last Wednesday to visit my BFF Gail and to shop sales and thrift stores.  In particular, an estate sale that had vintage clothing and other items.  Here's a few of my special finds this weekend.

I found a lot of vintage hats.  These are summery and will go into my booth shortly!  Love the roses!

I also found vintage hosiery in the box.  The pair on the left are supposed to be seamless stretch and will help block runs.  The box on the right contains seamed hosiery.  There are three stockings in this box so if you know any three legged person who would like seamed hosiery, let me know!!  Just kidding!  The third one could be an extra in case of a run in one of the others.

This pair of hosiery is much fancier!  Note the black heel with the rhinestones!  They have seams as well.  Really fancy!

For winter (these will NOT be in my booth until the weather cools off!!) I found a great mink stole, a pink rabbit fur collar and a child's fur muff.  Too cute for winter!!

After Christmas redo of my booth at Merchant Square

A couple of pieces of furniture sold last week and I didn't have any in stock in the garage.  So I had to go shopping in Merchant Square for some good buys -- which I found!  Then I redid my booth and most of the displays.

Have switched from Christmas to birds.  I have a couple of bird cages in my booth now.  This pink chair is a child's chair in great condition and just darling for a girl's room.  Love that hatbox!

This is the dress form that is for sale.  I have dressed her in one of my slip dresses and added a fur collar.  Next to her is a great shabby easel that holds an old print, several old buckets and a blue sap bucket.  Lot of other goodies to see here as well!

This great piece I found this morning and bought from another dealer.  It is a really nice display piece.  Loaded it up with lots of old flower frogs, rubber stamps, another bird cage on a cake plate and a dress form.

I Love that old La Mode print.  It is an actual page from an old magazine.  In this huge bowl is an assortment of rubber stamps, sponge stamps and some Maya Road items.  For you scrappers, this is a good deal because the prices are very right on those stamps!

Have a few cowgirl items here.  Red straw hat, white boots, bandana napkins, old toy horses, old horse show ribbons, and a couple of old suitcases.

I also put out several new hats.  This one is a vintage Easter hat.  She's wearing old pearls.  Vintage pink gloves and a die cut that is framed.

Come on over to Merchant Square and visit!  New dealers are moving in now and many others are redoing their booths for the New Year!  

Some finds last Friday

My bff Kim Johnson and her husband are moving to Yucca Valley very soon -- [[[so sad]]]!!  Friday they had a pre-sale at their house to clean out stuff that needs to go.  I found some treasures to put in my Merchant Square booth next week.

I love each of these old vintage hats.  I had to do a little brushing and steaming to get them back into shape.  Don't they look great??

This wonderful old purse is very shabby.  But it sparkles in the right light!  Just too bad I can't capture that with the camera.  It is covered with rhinestones and you can see where tiny red stones used to be in the purse frame.  It is lined with sheer pink silk.

Don't you love this shabby old trunk?  And what a surprise to find that wonderful paper lining!  Way cute for doll clothes, vintage treasures, etc.

These six shutters are pretty dirty.  But they are sage green on one side and white on the other.  Plenty of water and a scrub brush cleaned these up nicely.  Here's the result:

Much better!!  I think they will make great decorator or display pieces.

Hats! I love them!

I just love the hats I found this weekend. Pretty hats are not easy to find, but I think I found three good ones.

This is a straw hat for summer. I love the tulle that is the hatband and fluffy bow. The three pink roses make this hat really girlie!
These two hats are gorgeous! The pink one is newer, but still a knockout! The black hat is vintage and so pretty with the feathers and the rhinestones on the hat veil.

The straw hat is at Merchant Square right now. The other two will be up there shortly.

Painted lady project

One of the projects I was going to do today, while I am down (!!), is paint one of the styrofoam wig heads I have to display hats in my booth at Merchant Square. Here is the result:

The head was already mounted on the piece of wood. These styrofoam heads are so light that the slightest brush sends them falling over! The wood helps keep them upright, stable and weights them down.

First I painted the entire head with ivory acrylic paint and let it dry. Then I got out a brush and some paint and went to work on putting on her face. A pair of cheapo false eyelashes from WalMart completes the look. I think she looks pretty spiffy -- if a bit of a "painted lady" type.

Here are some hats out of my stash that will be put into my antique booth as time goes on. Right now I am not trying to sell any hats. But these are just darling!!My son's computer is so much faster than my old, dead one. I can't wait to get up and running on the new computer. The only problem today is that I cannot crop these pictures with my photo editing program. I will also post these on my Flickr page.

Since I have been AWOL again, I thought I would show you pics of projects I have done in the past when I first got interested in altered art and mixed media. I hope you enjoy these pictures.

I love hats, as you well know. This project is done with the beverage coasters you get in restaurants. I decided to do a hat book out of the coasters featuring the hats of these vintage ladies.It was a lot of fun to do. Especially the junking up of each page! That is my thing!This is one page from an altered book that I did using photos of my mother. They were taken in the late 1930's in Los Angeles. She left the rural farm life of Henderson, Iowa (pop. 300 give or take) and went to Los Angeles to work. Here she is with a couple of her friends -- names unknown. My mother is on the left. I just love their hats!

Last week I was contacted by email by a lady who lives in the Netherlands. She had found my blog online and wanted to know if I would trade some ATC's with her! Of course! I sent my ATC's off to her on Monday and she has sent hers off, too. I am excited about receiving her ATC's. I will post those when I receive them.

Her name is Nadia and her blog, Patch and Stitch, is intriguing! Nadia loves to do cross stitch and quilt. But her other passion is collecting ATC's. If you view her blog, you will see her lovely cross stitch and quilting projects. Also she has some nice pictures of her vacation time in Pyrenees. What is really intriguing is that she blogs in Dutch (I think??) as well as in English. Anyway, I am looking forward to receiving her ATC's. Check out her blog!
