Mini dress forms dressed for the party!

After receiving and thoroughly studying my copy of Somerset Studio (Jul/Aug 2012) magazine I fell in love with the Ranger Challenge Liquid Pearls & Stickles little dress forms.  After mulling that over for about a month, I hunted up the two mini dress forms I had and started to work.  They are both papier mache, both about 8 inches tall.  Even taller once they were glued to the candlestick holders.  One was covered with Chinese paper and varnished so I had to cover it myself. 

Here they are!  I love them!

Here's the front of the one on the left.  I love the old watch necklace, multiple ribbons and the little flowers.

The back has a little bustle of pink lace. 

Here's a close up of the one on the right.  Again I used an old watch as a pendant.

Since the front of this form was rather plain, I decided to add flowers to the back of her costume.  I also had the two glass candlestick holders in the cupboard that were gathering dust and not much else.  Used them as pedestals for the forms.  What do you think??

A mention in the newest Somerset Studio

The latest issue of Somerset Studio is out. I just received mine. On the cover is the fat book collaboration I participated in with Dede Warren, Sue McPherson, Milli Wagoner and Debbi Greenlee earlier this year. It was decided to go with the "aubergine" call that Somerset Studio had put out. The article "Unexpected Connections" (pgs. 34-36) was written by Dede and tells all about the collaboration. We were all mentioned in the article but not all the pages were photographed. I will, however, correct that omission and feature all the inside pages of the collaboration on my blog. Dede assembled the fat books once our pages were sent to her and then she submitted a copy to Somerset Studio. AND, they picked it up for publication! Dede did a lot of work: writing the article, the assembly and submitting it. Thank you, Dede!

Here is the cover of my finished fat book. It came with the picture, one white feather, the pink spray and the white roses. I finished the rest once the completed book was returned to me.

I added a lot of things to complete my cover. I especially like the heavy fringe trim on the bottom of the book. It was a piece I had that just went perfectly with the aubergine theme. You can also see some pink rhinestones that I put on the trim under the picture. Just added a bit of sparkle to the cover.

I'm glad I did this because it was fun! My first collaboration.Thanks again to Dede Warren, Sue McPherson, Milli Wagoner, Debbi Greenlee and Ada Pringle. I will feature all the pages from my book in a few days. Stay tuned!

Surprises in today's mail!

First I opened the envelope from Robin of A Robin's Nest. You may recall that she won the little journal from my last give-away. This was a complete surprise to me! But I think this tag is wonderful! Very colorful and definitely a keeper! Thanks, Robin!! Next to open was the sweet package from Joy of Cupid's Charm - Notes from a Charmed Life. She had blogged a few days ago about the new Halloween charms she had finished and that were for sale on her website here. I thought they were wonderful, so I bought one. It arrived today and I am wearing it now!!

This is the back of the charm. How cool that the back has "Glamour Witch" on it! Love it!

The third thing that arrived in the mail I cannot show you. Sorry!! I promised that I wouldn't post pictures. You will have to wait a couple of months.

All I want to say is that I participated in a fat book project with three others. We created our own pages and submitted them to the hostess. She assembled them and took the final book to Stampington & Co. as a submission for the "Aubergine" call for art. The book has been accepted for publication and it will be seen in the Jan/Feb 2010 issue of Somerset Studio.

Somerset Studio Sep/Oct issue just arrived

Here is the latest issue of Somerset Studio. I blogged a couple of weeks ago that they had notified me that I was going to be published in this issue. I had submitted two Halloween pieces and both of them made the publication. My piece is at the lower right. I also taught this as a class last year. Some of you were in that class and have similar pieces! It is called "Awaiting Halloween."
The next piece is the one at the top. I called it the Paper Bag Costume. This was also on display at Mystic Paper last year, but I didn't teach a class. However, before submitting this piece I made the paper bag dress and attached the collage to it.
I loved the picture of the little girl in the paper bag dress. It was an ad I found in a magazine. I thought that it would make a great Halloween costume -- all I had to do was add a hat and shoes! The wording on the right side says "Her mother couldn't sew; but she was creative!"

Ah! Another goal met for the year!!

WooHoo!!!

Just got an email letting me know that "something" I submitted is going to be published in the September/October issue of Somerset Studio!!! Since I submitted 2 projects for the Halloween call and I have no idea if one or both have been chosen. Will let you know as soon as I find out!

As some of you know, one of my goals for this year was to get published in Somerset Studio. Especially since they rejected a project a couple of years ago! Made me mad! AND more determined!!

Mission accomplished!
