New art work this week . . .

I had some "forced" stay at home days this week and used that time to create some new art work.  Decided to use old book covers that were on nearly destroyed books.  Here's what I did:

I have a number of different "hangers" for this kind of mixed media work.  Love these shabby white ones.
Sisters
This is one of my favorite Paper Whimsy Beautiful Faces collage images.
Closer up you can see the stitching around the photo, the fabric and laces used and the trims.
I tried my hand at resin as well.  Love this bezel by Susan Lenart Kazmer.  Another part of the Paper Whimsy Beautiful Faces collage sheet.
Going Fishin'
This is an actual old photo of this darling little boy holding a fishing pole.  Love his overalls and that cute, cute hat!  Isn't he just too stinkin' cute???!!  Love the wire hanger on this picture.
On this collage I just glued the original picture to the old book cover and added the trims and old buttons.
 Do You Like My Hat?
Next is an old photo that I just love.  I have had it for years and the things I like most are her hat and her blouse!  Beautiful!  And those partial gloves are fantastic!
An old book cover, old lace and cheesecloth.  Trims, ribbon and a pretty vintage crocheted flower.
I love the bit of pearl and lace trim at the top.

Thanks for visiting!  I hope to do more blogging in the future.  Please be sure to check out my Facebook page for more found items and updates on happenings around town and at Merchant Square.

One of my favorite finds last weekend . . and a few more!

Besides our monthly visit to Sweet Salvage, Gail and I also visited Melrose Vintage.  They were having a big sale last weekend because they are closing for most of the summer only to open on the third weekend of the summer months.  Here are some of the items I found.
I have had my eye on this canvas for over a year.  I love it!  Melrose Vintage had it on sale at a great price and I snagged that baby right up!!
It is now on a wall in my bedroom and you see it as you walk down the hall to the bedroom.
I managed to snag three plateaus this weekend as well -- all at sale prices!  These are getting hard to find.  They will be used in my booth but they won't be for sale . . . yet.  Also found the old silver covered sugar bowl as well in a thrift store stop.
I have also had my eye on this shabby yellow bed table.  The top does open at a slant for reading in bed!  Something I never do!  But I am not keeping it.
Also got this little metal four drawer storage unit.  I love it!

These were my finds and several are staying home with me.  The rest are going into my booth at Merchant Square.

Sweet Salvage Summer Lovin! -- June 2013

The Sweet Team put together another Sweet Salvage event called Summer Lovin'.  I have some favorites among the many pictures I took and here they are!
Love this gray table backed by a window and blue shutters.  Those urns were fabulous!  And think what you could do with holiday decorations in those!
This gray cupboard is really nice.  I should have snagged it!  Nice display piece!!
Nice glass decanters backed by an American flag.  Pretty nice!
Loved three things in this display.  The cloche on the plateau with a small scale on an old book.  The industrial bulb cage.  And the lamp made out of old pipe fittings!
Another great lamp made from old pipe fittings!  How cool!
Another favorite is this cabinet of curiosities!  You could stand there quite a while and not see everything in that cabinet!
I bought one of these industrial storage drawer sets.
Am going to create one of these for my booth soon!  This is way cool!  Love it!
Love all this wonderful crochet cotton and string in this wire basket.
Rusty the Dog!  He was a hit and sold quickly!!  How stinkin' cute!!
The printer's trays, old books, boxes, etc. make for a great curiosity display!
Neat, neat 8 drawer wood chest in a great color!  The enamel bucket is good and rusty!  And that candelabra is way cool, too!

Another great event at Sweet Salvage this month.  Next event will begin on July 18 through July 21!!  Looking forward to it already!!  Thanks to Kim Rawlins, Katie Cryer Hibbs and the Sweet Team!  You did good!!

Sweet Salvage -- Sweet Retreats in May

Another successful event for Sweet Salvage on 7th this month.  The theme was Sweet Retreats.  And one could certainly find many lovely things to put in their own "sweet retreats".  Here are some of my favorite displays from this months Sweet event.
Love the picture of the swans on the lake and the bird cages.
Great easy chair with summer reading on the table next to it!
This is just beautiful!  A sea fan mounted on linen and put in an antique oval frame with curved glass.
This chandelier shows some serious "thinking outside the box".  That's what makes it so special!
Tucked in a tiny corner was this "SEA" display.  The ladder with the plants would work on patio.
My favorite chair and ottoman.  They are sold and going to live with someone with great taste!
Another great "SEA" display with glittery starfish and antlers!
A simple, yet effective, display under a cloche.
Summer reading!  Love those bookmarks.  I did make some of those long ago.  Think I will be making more!
This display is awesome!  I love all the frames, mirrors and prints on the wall.
Such a pretty shabby chic display!
Close ups of the shabby chic display . . . .
This month's Sweet Salvage event didn't disappoint!  It was beautiful!  For more pictures of many other items there this month, visit my Facebook page!  I posted three albums full of these and many other pictures!  Many thanks to the Sweet Team for another great Sweet Salvage event.

Yesterday's finished creations.

Yesterday I spent the day finishing several projects, redoing one, and getting things ready to take into my booth at Merchant Square.

Here is what I accomplished:
I finished another small canvas gift bag.  It's covered with vintage laces, fabric roses, a beautiful pearl pin, and a bow made from an old mother-of-pearl belt buckle.
An old coin purse given new life with a few bits and pieces.
This gift bag I redid.  Didn't like the original artwork on it.  Everything can be fixed with just a little thought, glue and new ideas!
Finally decided to part with this fancy necklace of gold chain, pearls and crystals.  I added the fancy feather piece to an old rayon purse from the '50's.  It is a nice purse, just needed a bit of bling!
I also tied up a couple of book bundles using burlap ribbon, lace, and trims.  An old book bundle always looks better when tied up nicely.  I am giving credit to Myko Bocek, a member of the Sweet Team at Sweet Salvage for this idea!  Thanks Myko!!  Also love the watercolor of a ketch on the sea.  Nicely done by an amateur probably on summer vacation at the beach!

Sweet Friends and Fans found at Sweet Salvage.

Over the last 20 months of attending each Sweet Salvage event, I have seen and/or met some fabulous people.  These are just a few.
I recognized Mary Emmerling wandering among the displays.
Christie Repasy was there in January of 2012, my birthday month, and I bought one of her prints with the gift certificates I had received for my birthday!
Mr. Spellbinder, Ken Oliver!!
Of course, my two picture taking cohorts, Dawn Marie and Pamela Medaglia!
And, of course, I have to include my BFF Gail!

A Sweet Review

Every third Thursday of the month, for the last 20 months, my friend Gail and I have gone to Phoenix to see Sweet Salvage on 7th.  One of the owners, Kim Rawlins, has been a friend for years and we have supported her through her growing business. I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite displays at Sweet Salvage from the last 20 months.

These pics were taken in the first building Sweet Salvage held their events.
Love the ruffly curtains, ballet en pointe shoes, and the vanity and chair.
This chandelier and display was inside of a large china closet painted black.  My favorite!!
Lots of glass, silver and bling!
This display captured me the minute I walked in!  Love the roses, delicate nightie, and vanity!
Such a pretty lamp and shade along with a Christie Repasy print! Then Sweet Salvage discovered that they had outgrown their first space and moved to a much larger space just down the street.  The following pics are from the new store.
Love the aqua/turquoise accents.  And that chair is wonderful!
White and aqua/turquoise in this black china cabinet really shows off well!
Real flowers and other garden lovelies make this display seem so fresh and inviting.
Love the bling, the silver, the shoes!

Lovely dresses!  These are just a few of my favorite displays.  Old and new!  Next event is May 16th
